New York's NewFest, an annual film festival built around LGBTQ+ cinema, will open its 38th edition on Oct. 15 with "La Bola Negra," a film honored at the Cannes Film Festival. The film comes from the Spanish filmmaking pair Javier Calvo and Javier Ambrossi, who work together under a shared professional name. Landing the opening-night slot puts a Cannes-recognized title at the center of one of the city's marquee LGBTQ+ cultural events this fall.
