Six Familiar Names, One Room, 1980: Tom McCarthy's "A Statement" Is Built Around Its Cast

The Hollywood Reporter has reviewed "A Statement," a film directed by Tom McCarthy. Its cast includes Paul Rudd, Amy Ryan, John Turturro, Paul Giamatti, Evan Peters and Tatiana Maslany. The film follows a gathering of specialists in 1980 who were asked to plan ahead for a warming planet. The review credits the actors with giving unexpected energy to material it describes as dry. That puts the cast at the center of the review. The six actors share a story set mostly around one meeting, and the review says their work is what keeps that meeting lively.
