A Studio With No Major Backer Is Landing Three Films at Festivals This Year

Topic Studios, a production company that develops and finances films without money from a major studio or streamer, currently has three titles moving through this year's festival circuit: "The Debut," "Club Kid," and "Wicker." Independent shops rarely place multiple films on that circuit in a single season without a studio behind them. Topic's slate reflects a company reaching that stage on its own financing. The three titles put an outside-the-system studio in the same conversation as backed competitors this year.
