At a Family Home, the Garden Sets the Plan and the Flowers Follow
A couple in Cookeville, Tennessee, didn't book a venue and decorate it. They held the wedding at a family home and let the grounds make the main decisions. Its long-established trees and planted gardens did the job a ballroom's architecture usually does: they gave the day its frame. The flowers were chosen to match what was already there. They were mostly green and white, with a small amount of blush for warmth. Guests sat under a sailcloth tent, and hydrangeas hung above them in a suspended installation, so the flowers were overhead as well as on the tables. If you're thinking about a wedding on private property, the lesson here is the order of decisions: walk the grounds first, then build the palette around them.
