Palm Beach Would Know This House on Sight: A 1920s Spanish Colonial in Los Angeles Asks $17 Million
Anyone who has driven the lanes between Worth Avenue and the lake will recognize the vocabulary at once: stucco, tile, arches, and the kind of shade a courtyard makes at two in the afternoon. This one happens to sit in Los Angeles, where it was designed in the 1920s by the architect James E. Dolena, and it has just come to market with a $17 million price. The firm June Street Architecture handled the renovation, keeping the bones of the studio-era original while bringing the comforts up to what a buyer expects now. That balance, the old romance and the new plumbing, is the whole point of a house like this, and it is the same balance every serious restoration in Palm Beach tries to strike. Naples would admire the restraint. Miami would wonder where the glass is. Palm Beach would simply ask who is handling the showing.
