A Pink Diamond That Stayed Out of Sight for Seventy Years Is Expected to Command $18 Million
A pink diamond weighing 24 carats, set in a ring, is expected to sell for about $18 million. For more than seven decades it has been held privately, by owners who apparently felt no need to show it to anyone. The wire item does not say where the ring will change hands or who will be bidding. In Florida we can guess how each coast would take the news. Miami would want to know the date of the sale, Palm Beach would assume it was already invited, and Naples would quietly look at the figure and decide it seemed reasonable. Whoever ends up owning the ring will be holding a stone that has gone seventy years without needing an audience, and that kind of patience is uncommon at this level.
