The FAA has hired more air traffic controllers than in any year before, a milestone worth noting for anyone who regularly files IFR. As of August, the agency still had several hundred fewer controllers than the number it set for itself. For owners, controller staffing comes down to the people on the other end of the frequency. The record year moves things the right way, and the remaining gap is the number to watch.
