Stratolaunch Puts a Boeing 777 to Work Raising Its Hypersonic Test Tempo
Stratolaunch has added a Boeing 777 to its hypersonic testing operation, where the widebody will carry test vehicles aloft. The company is adding the jet to fly more often, and projects it will raise the number of flights it can fly by 35 percent. Anyone who has managed an airframe against a calendar will recognize the reasoning. A test program can only fly as often as its aircraft are available, and adding one is the most direct way to fly more. The 777 is a familiar type and a long-haul workhorse, and here it is doing very unfamiliar work.
