A pop-up exhibition drawing crowds in New York this season is treating Charles Schulz's comic strip less as nostalgia and more as a design record. According to Architectural Digest, Schulz spent decades quietly furnishing the Peanuts world with the actual look of the American home, right down to Eames chairs, and carried that attention through to the design language of the 1980s. The exhibition's premise is that a comic strip, read closely enough, can double as a chronicle of how domestic taste in this country actually moved. It is a case for looking again at something familiar and finding the house inside it.
