At the Americas Society, the Soap Opera Is Taken Seriously

· 1 min read

"Telenovela" is now open at the Americas Society in New York, and it stays up until March 27. The show takes the familiar conventions of the Latin American serial drama as its lens. It asks what those storytelling habits can reveal about the artwork gathered around them. For a city that measures its seasons in gallery openings, that is a welcome premise: the most popular form of television treated as something with real weight inside a serious exhibition space. Anyone planning their winter calendar in Manhattan has until late March to see it.
