ARTnews Names Its Collectors Again, and Turns to the Care of What They Own
ARTnews has published its Top 200 Collectors issue, the thirty-seventh year the magazine has assembled its ranking. Next to the names, the issue gives practical advice on preserving artworks once they belong to a collector. That work starts after a piece is bought and keeps going for as long as it hangs on a wall or sits in storage. The issue also looks at Daniel Weiss and the Philadelphia Museum of Art under his direction. A ranking that has run for thirty-seven years is a fixed date for anyone who follows who is buying. Putting it beside guidance on care says that owning a collection is as much about looking after it as acquiring it.
