Billy Joel Brings More Than 70 Motorcycles to the Block in New York This November

More than seventy vintage motorcycles from Billy Joel's collection are going to auction this November with Gooding Christie's. The house is the official auctioneer of Rétromobile New York, so the sale belongs to the city's collector-car calendar. It is a large single-owner group, and the number alone says the collection was built with commitment over a long run rather than a few chance buys. Single-owner sales get a particular kind of attention. A collector reads the lineup as a record of one person's eye, and the provenance travels with every machine that crosses the block. For bidders the appeal is that the whole group is offered at once, so the collection can be seen together before it is dispersed to new owners.
