Belmont Park Owns the Week's Fastest Maidens, and a Repole Uncle Mo Filly Is Among Them
Every one of the week's five quickest first-time winners came out of Belmont Park, a sweep for the New York track in the latest tally of maiden Beyer Speed Figures for Oct. 5 through 11. One of the five is Badittude, a two-year-old filly who broke her maiden going a mile in the second race on Oct. 7. She is by Uncle Mo out of the Bernardini mare Donatella and runs for Repole Stable. Her winning effort earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 82, a number that puts a juvenile filly in company with the best debut performances anywhere in the country that week. For a yard watching its young stock come through, a figure like that at a mile on a Belmont afternoon is the kind of line that gets a pedigree page pulled out and read again. That the list belongs entirely to one track says something about the depth of the maiden ranks on Long Island this fall.
