A Good Magic Filly Wins First Time Out on Belmont's Main Track
Mioruilt, a 2-year-old filly by Good Magic, won the first start of her career on the Belmont dirt that horsemen call Big Sandy. She didn't need any time to learn the game. From the break she settled in just behind Badittude, the Uncle Mo filly who went to the front, and she stayed there through the run down the far side. All the way along the backstretch she sat right at the leader's flank, close enough to keep her in reach and never letting her get away. That is a hard thing to ask of a filly running for the first time. The dirt kicks back, the field closes in around her, and she has to hold position without anything to go on. Mioruilt held it, and she left the track a winner. For a young filly, winning on debut means the next step is already in front of her. For the Good Magic stock, it adds another name worth watching on New York's biggest dirt oval.
