The Bare Foot Gets Its Moment on Seventh Avenue

New York's runways have quietly shifted their attention downward this season, with a wave of shoes built to look like no shoe at all. Sheer soles, skin-toned straps and barely-there uppers are doing to the foot what the naked dress once did to everything above it — drawing the eye by seeming to disappear. It is a trend built on precision rather than exposure: get the illusion wrong and it just looks like you forgot your shoes. For now, New York's most closely watched feet are the ones that look undressed but are, in fact, engineered.
