Cornelia Guest Sends Her Mother's Closet to Atlanta
C.Z. Guest, the style icon, is the subject of a new exhibition at SCAD FASH in Atlanta. The show assembles over forty head-to-toe ensembles, each one presented as the whole look rather than a single piece. The greater part of that wardrobe arrived as a gift from her daughter, Cornelia, which gives the museum something rarer than a loan: a family's own keeping of a mother's clothes. A visitor walking the galleries is seeing dressing as it was actually done, outfit by outfit, not a scattering of favorites. For a wardrobe this well remembered, forty-plus complete looks under one Georgia roof is an occasion in itself. It is also, for once, an archive of this caliber that is a domestic flight away rather than an ocean.
