WWD has opened its files on Isaac Mizrahi, and the portrait that emerges is of a Manhattan talent whose work was as witty as his conversation. His clothes were polished without ever being solemn, the kind a woman could wear to a gala and still look like she was enjoying herself. Just as memorable was the man himself, who said exactly what he thought in a city that rewards that sort of candor. It is a reminder that the best American fashion has often come with a personality attached.
