From Detroit to the Black Footwear Forum Stage: Maurice Malone Revisits His Story
Maurice Malone, founder of Williamsburg Garment Co., came to the Black Footwear Forum ready to look back. In an interview with WWD at the forum, he returned to Detroit, recalling a store built around hip-hop, and Eminem along with it. He traced the road his work in clothing has taken, and spoke about what Black designers have had to push for along the way. Later he shared the stage with April Walker for a conversation in front of the forum's audience. That gave the room two designers in one session, at a forum centered on Black footwear. For an archive that cares about who, where and when, it is an entry worth filing carefully: a designer, a Detroit memory and a stage shared with a peer.
