Melissa Joseph Brings the Midwestern Potluck Table to a New York Gallery Wall

At Charles Moffett in New York, multidisciplinary artist Melissa Joseph is showing giant fabric works built from the imagery of her Midwestern childhood home. The textiles trade in what she calls "casserole culture" — the domestic rituals of family kitchens and shared tables, rendered at a scale usually reserved for oil on canvas. It is a quietly ambitious swap: cloth standing in for paint, a hometown standing in for a grander subject.
