Metallica and Adidas Share a Label for 24 Nights at the Sphere
For the concert wardrobe, Metallica has picked Adidas. The band and the sportswear label have made a line of tops that carry both names, produced for Metallica's 24-show run at the Sphere in Las Vegas. The shows run across five months. That gives the merchandise a long season, and a fan in the stands in the first month can still find the same piece near the end. Some of the tops will be sold only at the Sphere itself. That makes the building a shopping stop as well as a stage, and it turns a shirt into proof that you were in the room. Keepsakes like that tend to outlast the ticket stub. We track who wore what, when and where, and this is a garment tied to all three. A band name and a sportswear name share the same shirt, made for one run of shows in one American building, and part of it can't be bought anywhere else. The pieces worth keeping in any archive are the ones that tell you exactly where they came from.
