Tesla unveiled its next-generation Roadster, and the car did the one thing a car is not supposed to do: it lifted off the pavement in front of the crowd. Elon Musk had made some very large claims for this model, and on this occasion the machine backed up at least a share of the talk. For a company whose founder is better known for the gap between announcement and delivery, a sports car that actually rises on cue is its own kind of statement. Down here the questions start immediately. Miami will want it seen, Palm Beach will want it kept quiet behind the hedge, and Naples will want to know whether it clears the lanai screen.
