The American SetBayeux Tapestry Preview Reminds Palm Beach Why We Keep Our Own Archives Close
The King and Queen of England were given a private preview of the Bayeux Tapestry ahead of its public display at the British Museum, where the piece is on loan from France for a limited engagement. For a town that treats provenance as a kind of manners — where a great-grandmother's lace or a family's collection of ship models gets the same careful handling — the occasion reads as a familiar instinct: bring the right people close to a rare, borrowed thing before the doors open to everyone else. It is the sort of quiet, considered gesture Palm Beach recognizes on sight.
