The 2026 Emmys made room for a tribute even television doesn't often manage this gracefully: Reba McEntire performing in honor of Dolly Parton, with Sally Field stepping out to introduce her. For anyone who has watched Steel Magnolias more times than they'd admit, the pairing lands with particular weight — Field and Parton once shared that screen together, and now Field is the one handing the moment to the friend carrying the tribute forward. It is the kind of night where the audience is watching two histories at once, the performance and the friendship behind it.
