Saturday Night's Anchor Takes the Stage Solo, and the Title Tells You Where
Michael Che, who has sat behind the Weekend Update desk at Saturday Night Live longer than most of the cast has been in the building, has a new stand-up special, and he named it for the state where the cameras rolled: Michael Che: Shot in Minnesota. Speaking with Vanity Fair, he treats the hour less as a victory lap than as an athlete would a season, something to train for, measure, and try to top. He also looks back at the writers' room he walked into when he first arrived at the show, and at how far the distance is from that desk to this one. For anyone who has spent Saturday nights in season with the television on after a dinner, the voice will be familiar, and the setting, for once, is his alone.
With reporting from Vanity Fair.
