An AD100 Architect Turns an Island Into a Japanese Villa Fantasy

AD100 architect Bjarke Ingels has completed a resort built directly into an island, which he describes as "a Scandinavian architect's fantasy of a Japanese villa." Architectural Digest frames the project as part of a new wave of Japandi design — the blending of Japanese restraint with Scandinavian warmth into a single architectural language. Ingels's own words serve as the clearest brief for the building itself: two design traditions distilled into one structure, set into the water on an island site.
