Brooklyn Heights, One Bedroom, $765,000: Here the Windows Are the Draw
A one-bedroom apartment in Brooklyn Heights is on the market at $765,000, and its casement windows are its selling point. A casement is hinged at the side and swings open like a door, which makes it a different thing to live with than a sash that slides up and down. In a one-bedroom there are only a few openings to judge a place by, so the windows count for more than they would in a larger home. At this price, in this neighborhood, a buyer would want to see them before anything else. Across the East River in the West Village, a second one-bedroom is laid out as a duplex, and each of its two floors has its own bath. That is an unusual arrangement for a single bedroom. Nobody has to use the stairs to reach a bathroom, and whichever floor guests are on, they have one to themselves.
