A Three-Century-Old Connecticut Colonial Gets a New Wing That Looks Like It Was Always There
Restaurateur Rose Bonura's Connecticut house is a Colonial about three hundred years old, and it now has a new wing. The addition began as an old garage on the property. Designer Ryan Lawson reworked it into a barn-style building that takes its cues from the past. Bonura and Lawson are friends, and they did the project together. The new wing doesn't announce itself as new. It sits beside the old house as if it had been part of the place from the start. That's hard to pull off next to a house that has stood for three centuries. No sale or price is involved, so there is no figure to report. What stands out is the restraint: a garage made into a barnhouse that sits comfortably beside one of the state's oldest kinds of American house.
