Cranbrook to Michigan Central: Detroit's Design Month, Drawn

CK Reed, an artist and contributor to Surface, spent this year's Detroit Month of Design working in ink rather than in review copy. The event, organized by Design Core, sent her through some of the city's most recognizable buildings, and her illustrations followed: the Cranbrook campus, the restored Michigan Central depot, and The Shepherd, the former church now given over to art and design. Reed's pages move from one landmark to the next, a hand-drawn itinerary of what the month put in front of its visitors. It is a record of place as much as of the event itself, one building at a time.
