The Guest Room Has Rules, and They Change at the Water's Edge

· 1 min read

A stay under someone else's roof comes with a code nobody writes down, and that code in an American house isn't the same as in a British one. Elle Decor has compared the two traditions, from whether shoes come off at the door to when it's time to say goodbye. For anyone opening a house in Palm Beach or the Hamptons to guests this season, it's a useful reminder that good manners depend partly on where you are. A well-kept guest room is half of hospitality, and the guest brings the other half.

With reporting from Elle Decor.
