The Locked Garden Comes With the Lease: Gramercy Park Access at $825,000
New York's most private square has a price on it. A Gramercy Park key, with an apartment attached, is on offer at $825,000. Here the residence comes almost second, because the key is what opens the iron gate onto the gated garden at the center of the square, which most people only ever see through the railings. On the same list, uptown, sits a one-bedroom with a balcony nineteen feet long, a few steps from Central Park. That is a generous stretch of outdoor space for a single-bedroom home in Manhattan, with the city's great lawn only a short walk away. Both listings make the same case from different ends of the island: in New York, the outdoor space can be worth as much as the rooms.
