The American SetA New Landmark, Seen Before It Became One
Baldwin Lee pointed his camera at the World Trade Center in its earliest years, when the towers were simply new construction on the skyline rather than a fixed landmark. It was the first sustained body of photographic work in his career. At the time, no one photographing the towers had reason to think the buildings would not always be there. What remains is an early, unguarded record of a New York structure seen before it carried any larger meaning.
