The Wall as a Star Chart: A Sailor's Old Instrument Becomes Wallpaper
McLaurin & Piercy has released a new wallpaper collection called Kamal. The name comes from a navigation instrument that sailors used to read the night sky, already in use at sea by the closing decades of the 800s. It was a plain device, built to help a person find their way by the stars. For the owner of an American house choosing what goes on the walls, the collection starts from more than a thousand years of steering by starlight, in a tool modest enough to fit in a hand.
