For Collectors of Western Art, Eve Is One Subject With Two Thousand Years of Readings

· 1 min read

The Collector has published a survey of how Western art has portrayed Eve over roughly two millennia, and how artists kept changing what she meant. In the biblical account she is the first woman, the one blamed for the loss of paradise. Artists have never settled on a single version of her. For anyone who collects, or simply looks closely in a gallery, it is a useful reminder that one figure can carry twenty centuries of changing interpretation.

With reporting from The Collector.
