Hirst and Fairey Lead the First Rétromobile Program at CART Department in New York
Rétromobile is coming to New York, and its first local stop is CART Department, ahead of the fair's run at the Javits Center. Galerie reports that the French fair and CART Department have formed a partnership covering both exhibitions and programming. The first artists named under the partnership are Damien Hirst and Shepard Fairey. Collectors here will meet Rétromobile through two of the best-known names in contemporary art before they reach the fair's floor on the West Side. The pairing puts a British artist known in auction rooms worldwide next to an American whose images are familiar from both the street and the gallery. For New York, it means a European fair is arriving through an art space rather than only a convention hall. The works to be shown, the dates and any prices have not been announced, and this column will report them once they are public.
