Louis K. Meisel Gallery Readies a New York Solo Show for Hyperrealist Raphaella Spence

· 1 min read

The SoHo gallery is preparing "From Rome to New York," a solo exhibition of paintings by hyperrealist Raphaella Spence, known for monumental cityscapes built up from photographic source material. Ahead of the opening, Spence discussed her process, explaining that a photograph serves only as the starting point for her canvases rather than the finished reference. That distinction, between the camera's record and the painted result, is what separates her large-scale city views from straightforward photorealism. The show's title traces her own route, from Rome's skyline to a New York gallery wall, giving collectors a rare look at the working method behind the surface.
