The Met's New Wing Carries a Collector's Name Into Its Next Century

The Metropolitan Museum of Art has broken ground on a new home for its modern and contemporary art, a five-story building carrying a price tag of $670 million. The wing takes its name from Oscar L. Tang, an emeritus trustee of the museum, and his wife, H. M. Agnes Hsu-Tang. Their name will now sit permanently on one of the Met's principal buildings, a mark of patronage on Fifth Avenue that will outlast any single exhibition.
