Thomas Ruff's 9/11 JPEGs Return to Chelsea
David Zwirner is showing twelve works by German artist Thomas Ruff, made between 2004 and 2007, drawing on the pixelated, low-resolution imagery that circulated in the aftermath of September 11. The gallery's Chelsea space gives the series room to be seen together, a rare chance to take in the full arc of Ruff's turn from the crisp studio portraits he built his name on to imagery pulled from the compressed, degraded files of the internet age.
