Two Painters, One Studio: Matsuyama and the Wesselmann Estate Bring a Show to New York

A collaboration years in the making arrives at Tom Wesselmann's own New York studio, where the Pop artist's estate is teaming with painter Tomokazu Matsuyama for a joint exhibition. The pairing traces back to 2024, when Matsuyama was asked to contribute work to the Fondation Louis Vuitton's Wesselmann retrospective — an invitation that planted the idea for this new show. The result brings two distinct visual languages, one rooted in postwar American Pop, the other in Matsuyama's contemporary practice, into the same room where Wesselmann once worked.
