Mercedes-Benz Puts Its Pen to a Nine-Foot Electric Two-Seater for Smart
Smart has a new car, and it is called the #2. It seats two, runs on battery power alone, and measures about nine feet from nose to tail. The styling comes from Mercedes-Benz, which gives the smallest footprint in the Smart range a surface language borrowed from a far larger house. Beneath that skin sits current electric drivetrain hardware rather than anything carried over from an earlier generation. For readers in Palm Beach, Naples and Beverly Hills, where a short wheelbase is worth more than horsepower on a crowded street, the proportions alone make it worth a look. Nine feet is shorter than many of the pickups parked along Worth Avenue and roughly the length of a single garage bay's spare space. Whether it will ever be registered on a Florida title is not something the announcement addresses, so we will say no more on that until it does.
