Porsche Puts a Car Above the 911, and Leaves the Dashboard Clean
Porsche has shown the Mission S, a new model with its engine mounted behind the driver, and said it is headed for production as a lasting part of the range rather than a limited run. The company positions it above the 911, in both what it will do and what it will cost. For the owners and collectors who read this page, that is the significant point: Porsche is adding a rung at the top of its ladder, not replacing one. The detail that will get the most attention in a garage conversation is what the car leaves out. There is no central display in the cabin. The point, as Porsche frames it, is a car built around the person at the wheel rather than around a touchscreen. We have not driven it, and Porsche has not released the full specification, so the numbers will have to wait.
