Twenty-Nine Thousandths: Chase Briscoe Edges Christopher Bell in a Joe Gibbs Racing One-Two
Chase Briscoe crossed the stripe 0.029 seconds ahead of Christopher Bell, and no finish on the NASCAR calendar this year has been decided by less. Both men drive for Joe Gibbs Racing, so the same organization prepared the car that took the line first and the car right behind it. Twenty-nine thousandths of a second is quicker than a blink, and the stopwatch can only settle it in the third decimal place. Anyone who has stood at a club track with a timing light knows how little separates first from second, and this result made that gap smaller than it has been all season. It is also a good day for everyone in the Gibbs building: two of its drivers ran the order to the end, and one of them came out ahead by the smallest of measures. Until another finish comes in closer, this is the one the rest of the year will be measured against.
