The American SetDel Mar's Summer Season Rides Into the Books
The 87th summer meet at Del Mar closed Monday evening, and with it came word of who led the grandstand this season. Jockey Rosario, trainer O'Neill and owner Reddam each claimed the top standing in their respective columns, the wire confirmed, though the meet's final overall numbers were still being tallied. For a track that has long drawn the turf's sharpest hands to the California coast each summer, the naming of its leading rider, conditioner and silks is its own small ceremony, one that closes the season before the ledger is even complete. The honors stand as the clearest read yet on who set the pace at Del Mar this year.
