Gainesway's Tapit Colt Turns a Runner-Up Debut Into a Rising Star

Coach Pope, a colt by Tapit campaigned by Gainesway Stable and Shamrock Stables, broke his maiden run on Aug. 8 with a close second-place finish behind Gaudreau, a son of Nyquist. Also behind him that afternoon was USS Valor, a War of Will colt who came back next out to earn Thoroughbred Daily News' "Rising Star" tag, presented by Hagyard. Coach Pope needed only one more start to claim that same distinction himself, following his debut with a dominant score that put his name beside the two colts he had first faced in August.
