Saratoga Goes All Not This Time in a Maiden Tussle
Saturday's card at Saratoga, run under the Keeneland banner, came down to a sire's own runners settling matters between themselves. Pass On By, by the increasingly prominent stallion Not This Time, held control through the stretch to turn back stablemate-by-blood Related Party, also a son or daughter of the same sire, in a maiden event for second-time starters. Both horses were racing for just the second time in their careers, giving the result an early-season, developing-form feel rather than a settled form line. For a stallion still building his page, an exacta finish at a meet as closely watched as Saratoga's is the kind of result breeders note. The order of finish put Not This Time's name across the top of the chart twice in the same short field.
