A Saratoga Maiden Breaks Through on the Fastest List
Bogus Operandi, a 3-year-old gelding by Maximus Mischief out of Blame, broke his maiden at Saratoga on September 3, taking the eighth race over 6 1/2 furlongs. The effort was strong enough to earn a Beyer Speed Figure of 85 and a spot at No. 5 on Thoroughbred Daily News' weekly accounting of the country's fastest maiden performances, covering the week of August 31 through September 6. Saratoga's summer meet has long been a proving ground for young horses finding their form, and this was one more first-time winner doing exactly that on the main track. The distance, the figure, and the date are now part of Bogus Operandi's record as he moves beyond maiden company.
