On the same Saturday, on opposite sides of the country, two 2-year-old colts won by wide margins. Hughes, by Into Mischief, ran his way to the front of his age group and is now the juvenile everyone is talking about. U.S.S. Valor, a son of War of Will, showed real power in his own win, the kind of drive that makes horsemen look twice. The two have not met yet, and the turf may have to wait a while before they do. Many will think that day is worth the wait.
