Aaron Sorkin to Accept Maverick Award at Newport Beach Film Festival on Oct. 17

Aaron Sorkin, the screenwriter and director behind "The Social Reckoning," is scheduled to receive the Maverick Award at the Newport Beach Film Festival on Oct. 17, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The honor recognizes a career that began on the page and has since extended to directing, a path the festival is choosing to single out this year. The festival's program for the evening also includes a live recording of The Hollywood Reporter's "Awards Chatter" podcast, built around the honoree. The event takes place about an hour south of Beverly Hills, in Orange County, which puts one of the industry's most recognizable writers within easy reach of local audiences that evening.
