Actor Xolo Maridueña will reprise his role as Blue Beetle, the character he introduced in the 2023 film, after DC Studios co-head James Gunn confirmed the project's return. Maridueña said he had feared his time in the role was finished before learning otherwise. He said the news felt like confirmation that the work done on the original film had been recognized and celebrated. The actor said he is glad to take on the character again.
