The American SetFire Island's Glass Pyramid Is For Sale Again, and Florida's Modernists Are Taking Notes
A steel-and-glass pyramid built in 1960 by architect Julio Kaufman has returned to the market on New York's Fire Island, asking $3.3 million. The house was first listed back in 2022, and its return gives another look at a design language familiar to anyone who has toured the angular, glass-walled estates scattered from Palm Beach to Naples. Kaufman's pyramid predates most of what now passes for Florida's midcentury flex, a reminder that the geometric, sun-chasing house was a New York idea before it became a Florida signature. For a state that treats glass walls and hard angles as a personality trait, it is a good excuse to admire the original.
