The five-star set is done doing weekend guests over Christmas and New Year's. Properties in this category are lengthening their required minimum stays for the holiday season, meaning the old three-night booking simply will not hold a room anymore. For the traveler used to treating Palm Beach or Naples as a long-weekend habit, the calculus now runs closer to two weeks than two nights. It is less an inconvenience than a signal: these rooms are in enough demand that the house gets to set the terms.
